Origin and producers of honey

Honey is nature's own wonder product, tasting of all Finland's seasons. Honey is good from Finland, a delicious product from our own homeland.

The honey packed by Hunajayhtymä comes directly from domestic honey producers across Finland. We pack the honey and deliver it to store shelves for customers. Our approximately 150 contract producers care for their bees and produce honey in the midst of our country's clean nature.

The well-being and proper care of bees are important to our contract beekeepers. This is how good Finnish honey is made. In our Hunajayhtymä packing facility, meticulous quality control helps ensure the purity of the honey we sell. This results in a high-quality, pure natural product!

Check the best before date on your honey jar and enter it into the field below. With this date, you can find the geographical origin of your honey.

Leena Hirvonen, Urjala (Pirkanmaa)

Leena Hirvonen, who works as a teacher, is also a beekeeper in her spare time. Leena spends her summers with bees, enjoying nature and a sense of unhurriedness. The, at times physically demanding, work of beekeeping provides a nice balance to her job as a teacher. Leena, who focuses on the quality of honey, has her bees produce honey that is packaged by Hunajayhtymä in the village of Menos, Urjala, in Pirkanmaa.

Aimo Nurminen, Naantali (Southwest Finland)

Aimo Nurminen, a veteran beekeeper, has over 30 years of experience caring for bees. Aimo's speech radiates a love for beekeeping and genuine interest in the quality of honey produced by bees. Together with his wife Raija, they have been contract producers for Hunajayhtymä since the very beginning of contract production.

Juha Välimäki, Nurmijärvi (Uusimaa)

Juha Välimäki is a beekeeper in the third generation, and his entire family is involved in honey production. The journey of honey from the beehive to the jar is an interesting process that requires the beekeeper to have solid professional skills and knowledge. As the caretaker of over 200 hives, Juha has mastered these skills. Juha's honey is packaged at Hunajayhtymä.

Karoliina Nikitin and Pekka Helenius, Sastamala (Pirkanmaa)

Karoliina Nikitin continues her father Pekka Helenius's decades-long work as a honey producer. Bee origin is the most important aspect of their honey production – even though they manage around 150 bee colonies, the welfare of the bees is important to Karoliina and Pekka. The honey produced amidst the beautiful nature of Sastamala ends up on store shelves, packaged by Hunajayhtymä.

What kind of work is beekeeping?

Beekeeping is a year-round and quite physical activity. For most beekeepers, beekeeping is a beloved hobby, but there is also a small group in Finland who practice beekeeping as their main occupation. A large portion of beekeepers sell their own honey at fairs and events, but they often offer their products for sale to local shops as well. Hunajayhtymä's honey is sold nationwide in grocery stores.
