CO2e Indicator
THE LABEL MAKES CONSUMER CHOICES EASIER
Consumers want practical information on what our carbon footprint consists of. The CO2e-label meets this need. The label uses colours to indicate the carbon footprint of the product per one hundred grams of the product, from the field to shop storage.
In November 2009, Raisio published an indicator for foodstuffs, which indicates the carbon footprint of the product with an easy colour-code system. The green shades of the indicator indicate that the emissions of a product are low, whereas the yellow-orange colours indicate a higher carbon footprint. This colour-coded indicator informs the consumer of the climate impact of the product. Consequently, the consumer can make informed choices when shopping.
Raisio – Carbon footprint of the product
The CO2–indicator calculation model that Raisio developed is based on MTT Agrifood Research Finland research. The calculation method is based on the ISO 14040 and ISO 14044 standards as well as on Intergovernmental Panel on Climate Change (IPCC) principles. This indicator can be compared to the Linux operating system: anyone can join in as long as they comply with the extent that the label requires when indicating the emissions.
In summer 2010, Honey Group Finland started using this carbon-footprint indicator with its best-known product Finnish Floral Honey.
